Why convert PNG to JPG?

Why is my PNG file so much larger than a JPG?
PNG is lossless and compresses photographic detail poorly — a 12 MP screenshot or scan can easily reach 15–30 MB. JPG discards detail the eye barely registers, so the same image at 92% quality usually lands at 2–5 MB, roughly 70–90% smaller.
What happens to transparency when I convert PNG to JPG?
JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent pixels have to become something. ShiftRaw flattens them onto a white background, so transparent logos and cut-outs keep their intended look instead of turning black. If you need the transparency preserved, choose PNG as the output format instead.
Does converting PNG to JPG lose quality?
JPG is lossy, so a small amount of detail is discarded — at 92% quality it is invisible in photographs. Text, screenshots, line art and UI captures are the exception: JPG compression creates visible ringing around sharp edges and text. Keep PNG for those, use JPG for photos.
