Are my photos really never uploaded?

Really. The conversion engine is downloaded to your browser as WebAssembly and runs on your CPU. You can watch your network tab, or disconnect from the internet after the page loads — conversion keeps working. There is no server component, no storage, no analytics on your files.

Which RAW formats are supported?

CR2, CR3, CRW (Canon), NEF, NRW (Nikon), ARW, SRF, SR2 (Sony), DNG (Adobe/Leica/Pentax/DJI), RAF (Fujifilm), RW2 (Panasonic), ORF (Olympus/OM System), PEF, PTX (Pentax), plus 3FR, FFF, IIQ, MRW, X3F, KDC, DCR, ERF, MEF, MOS and more — 20+ extensions in total, decoded by LibRaw.

Is there a file size limit or daily quota?

No. Files are processed sequentially on your machine, so the practical limit is your device's memory — a 100 MP medium-format RAW decodes comfortably on any modern computer. There's no server bill to pass on to you, so there's no quota.

How is this free? What's the catch?

No catch: there's no server-side processing cost to recover, because your device does the work. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads. No accounts, no watermarks, no premium tier hiding the good settings.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, in any modern mobile browser. Large RAW files (40+ MP) are slow on phones and can exhaust mobile memory — a desktop is more comfortable for big batches, but HEIC and WebP conversions fly on any phone, including an iPhone converting its own photos.

Is the quality as good as Lightroom's export?

For a straight conversion, yes — the same open-source LibRaw engine processes the file with your camera's recorded white balance. What this doesn't do is develop: your Lightroom edits live in a catalog, not in the RAW file. Use ShiftRaw for unedited originals, Lightroom for developed exports.
