Why convert HEIC to JPG?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format every iPhone has used by default since iOS 11 in 2017. It wraps HEVC-compressed image data — the same codec family as modern video — and delivers photos at roughly half the file size of a same-quality JPEG. Apple adopted it to save storage; the rest of the world hasn't fully caught up.
That's the daily friction: HEIC attachments open wrong (or not at all) on many Windows machines, older Android devices, CMS platforms, ecommerce back-ends and printing services. If you've ever emailed a photo from an iPhone and been asked to resend it as a JPG, you've met the problem.
ShiftRaw converts HEIC to JPG in your browser. The decoder is compiled to WebAssembly, works on any device — including the iPhone itself — and your photos are never uploaded.
Best for: JPG is the universal choice: every device, browser, app and platform displays it, and at 90%+ quality the compression is invisible. A 45-megapixel RAW frame converts to a 5–10 MB JPG that uploads anywhere. For web and client delivery it remains the sensible default — start here unless you specifically need transparency (PNG) or the smallest possible files (WebP).
