Why convert ARW to JPG?
ARW (Alpha RAW) is Sony's RAW format, written by every camera in the Alpha line — the a7 and a9 full-frame mirrorless bodies that dominate the market, the APS-C a6000 series, and older Alpha DSLRs and SLTs. An ARW file contains 12- or 14-bit sensor data plus Sony's rich metadata, in lossy-compressed, lossless-compressed or uncompressed variants depending on your camera menu settings.
Sony's file naming (DSC01234.ARW) makes batches easy to accumulate and hard to deliver: clients, galleries and social platforms universally expect JPG, PNG or WebP.
ShiftRaw converts ARW to JPG entirely in your browser. A WebAssembly build of LibRaw handles the decoding with your camera's white balance applied, so your photos stay on your machine from start to finish.
Best for: JPG is the universal choice: every device, browser, app and platform displays it, and at 90%+ quality the compression is invisible. A 45-megapixel RAW frame converts to a 5–10 MB JPG that uploads anywhere. For web and client delivery it remains the sensible default — start here unless you specifically need transparency (PNG) or the smallest possible files (WebP).
