Privacy Policy — ShiftRaw Extension for Microsoft Edge

This policy applies only to the ShiftRaw extension distributed through Microsoft Edge Add-ons. It is separate from the privacy policy of the shiftraw.com website, which you can read at shiftraw.com/privacy. The two are different products with different data practices, and this page describes the extension.

1. The short version

The extension collects nothing. It has no account, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no cookies. Every conversion happens locally inside Microsoft Edge on your device. Your images are never uploaded to any server operated by us, because we operate no server for this extension.

2. Data we do not collect

  • No personal information: no name, email, address, or payment data.
  • No browsing history and no page content. The extension does not read the pages you visit.
  • No telemetry or usage statistics of any kind. We cannot tell how many people use the extension or which features they use.
  • No files. Images you convert stay in your browser's memory until you save them or close the popup.
  • No cookies, and no tracking or fingerprinting of any kind.

3. The only network request the extension makes

When you right-click an image on a web page and choose Save image as JPG / PNG / WebP, the extension downloads that one image so it can be re-encoded on your device. That request goes to whichever site is hosting the image, exactly as your browser would do when displaying it. It follows that:

  • The host of that image may see a request with your IP address and browser details. This is inherent in fetching any web image and is governed by that site's own privacy policy, not by us.
  • ShiftRaw does not receive, forward, log, or store anything about that request. The image is fetched directly by your browser into local memory.
  • No other network request is made. The extension never contacts shiftraw.com or any other server on its own.

If you use the toolbar popup to convert files you select from your own device, no network request is made at all.

4. Permissions and why each one is needed

  • contextMenus — to add the "Save image as JPG / PNG / WebP" entries to the right-click menu on images.
  • downloads — to save the converted file to your own Downloads folder.
  • storage — to remember your preferences (default output format, quality value, whether the right-click menu is on). Nothing else is stored.
  • offscreen — modern extension background workers have no access to canvas or WebAssembly, so conversion runs in a hidden offscreen document. It is invisible and temporary.
  • Access to the site you right-clicked on — required to read that single image, since most image hosts do not allow cross-origin reads. It is used only for the image you right-clicked, only when you click, and never to read page content or browsing activity.

5. Third parties

We share no data with third parties, because we hold none. We do not sell data, and we do not act as a data broker. The extension contains no advertising, no analytics SDK, and no remotely loaded code — every file it runs ships inside the extension package itself.

6. Data retention and location

All processing happens in your device's memory and is discarded when you close the popup or restart the browser. No copy is retained anywhere. Your saved files are ordinary files in your own Downloads folder.

7. Children's privacy

The extension is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). Because it collects nothing at all, no child's data can reach us.

8. Your rights

Because we hold no account and no personal data, there is no profile to access, export, correct, or delete — there is nothing associated with you. If you want the extension to forget your preferences, uninstall it, or clear it from Edge's extension settings; that removes locally stored settings immediately.

9. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the "last updated" date above will be revised and the change will be noted on this page. If a future version ever introduces an account or a paid feature, this page will be updated before that version is released.
